Thank God that nowadays many people are aware of the consequences of smoking, which has resulted in people smoking less in recent years. But for those who still smoke and want to stop, here are some tips:
DON’T TRY TO QUIT SUDDENLY
95% of those who try to quit cold turkey relapse and start smoking again. Nicotine is addictive and makes the brain accustomed to it, causing cravings.
TRY NICOTINE REPLACEMENT THERAPY
The lack of nicotine brings depression, frustration, and irritation. Nicotine replacement therapy can reduce this.
MEDICATION
Although I am not a big fan of medication, in some cases prescribed medicines are necessary. Your doctor can prescribe medications to help reduce the craving to smoke by affecting certain chemicals in the brain. These medications also make a cigarette taste less enjoyable if you relapse and smoke one.
DON’T DO IT ALONE
Tell your friends, colleagues, and family that you are going to quit smoking and that you want their support.
MANAGE STRESS
One of the reasons we smoke is because it relaxes us. When you quit smoking, you will need to find something else to help you manage stress. Try massages, listening to music, or starting Yoga or Tai Chi.
AVOID
Avoid alcohol and things that make you want to smoke, like coffee. Switch to tea for a while.
KEEP YOUR HOUSE CLEAN
Throw out all ashtrays and thoroughly clean your house to eliminate the smell of cigarettes. You don’t want anything that reminds you of smoking.
EXERCISE
Start a healthier lifestyle by exercising and eating healthily.
DO IT FOR YOUR HEALTH
If there is one reason to quit smoking, it is simply for your health. Take care!
